Having balanced chakras is important for your mental and even physical well-being. There are some ailments that one can get that can be directly related to unbalanced chakras. Here are a few clues and the chakras associated with them to let you know which ones need to be balanced.

The Root Chakra "Mukadhara”

The root chakra represents our foundation and our feelings of being grounded and secured. It is located at the base of the spine and is represented by the color red. When it is out of balance, we may experience physical and mental imbalances.

Physical Imbalance 

Physical Imbalances often occur on the lower portions of our body such as our legs, knees, feet and tailbone. Imbalanced root chakras can also give us issues with our immune system, rectum, and often times, gives us constipation.

Emotional Imbalance

Emotionally, when our root chakra is unbalanced, we tend to worry about money, shelter and the ability to provide for life's necessities.

When in Balance

When the Root Chakra is balanced, we feel supported, grounded and have a sense of connection and safety in the physical world. The lesson learned is self-preservation; that we have the right to be here.

Sacral Chakra “Svadhishthana”

The Sacral Chakra is orange in color and is located on the lower abdomen 2 inches below the naval. It represents our ability to feel creative, be sexual and accept change. We may experience the following physical and emotional issues when this chakra is out of balance.

Physical Imbalance 

Physical Imbalances of the Sacral chakra include urinary problems, sexual and reproductive issues, kidney dysfunction, lower back, hip and pelvic issues.

Emotional Imbalance

When our Sacral chakra is blocked or imbalanced, we aren't as creative and lack being able to be pleasured or have fun and we have hard times committing to relationships. We don't feel sexual and often have fears of impotence.

When in Balance

When the Sacral Chakra is balanced, we have the ability to take risks, be creative, and be committed. We are also passionate, sexual and out going. The lesson to learn is to honor others.

Solar Plexus Chakra “Manipura”

The solar plexus chakra is yellow in color and is located on your upper abdomen in the stomach area. It represents our ability to be confident and in control of our lives. We may experience the following physical and emotional issues when this chakra is out of balance.

Physical Imbalance 

Physical Imbalances of the Solar Plexus chakra include digestive issues, stomach ulcers liver dysfunction and chronic fatigue. It also corresponds with high blood pressure and diabetes.

Emotional Imbalance

Emotional imbalances are self-esteem issues, fear of rejection, issues of personal power, fear of criticism and fear of our physical appearance. 

When in Balance

When the solar plexus chakra is balanced, we get a sense of self-respect and self-compassion. We tend to feel in control, assertive and confident. The lesson to be learned here is self-acceptance.

Heart Chakra “Anahata”

The heart chakra is green in color and is located in the center of the chest just above the heart. This chakra represents the ability to love and the quality of love, both past and future loves. We may experience the following physical and emotional issues when this chakra is out of balance.

Physical Imbalance 

Physical Imbalances of the Heart Chakra can be related to asthma, diseases of the heart and lungs, upper bac, shoulder arm and wrist pain, our lymphatic system or issues with the breast.

Emotional Imbalance

Emotionally, we tend to feel bitter and jealous, abandoned and have a fear of loneliness. We often tend to over love to the point of suffocation.

When in Balance

When this chakra is balanced, we get the sense of joy and gratitude, love and compassion. Forgiveness flows freely, and trust is gained. The lesson to be learned here is simply love.

Throat Chakra “Vishuddah”

Your throat chakra is blue in color and is located in the throat. It represents our ability to communicate and to have self-expression. We may experience the following physical and emotional issues when this chakra is out of balance.

Physical Imbalance 

Physical imbalances of this chakra include thyroid issues, sore throats, ear infections, ulcers, shoulder and neck pain and any pain conflicting issues related to the face.

Emotional Imbalance

We tend to feel powerless and lack the feeling of having a choice. We have a feeling of being out of control of our situations and have no will power. We also lack self-expression through communication.

When in Balance

When this chakra is balanced, we tend to have free flowing words, expressions and communication. We are honest and truthful, yet firm and we can be very good listeners. The lesson to be learned from this chakra is to speak up and let your voice be heard.

Third Eye Chakra “Anja”

The third eye chakra is indigo in color and is located on the forehead in between the eyes. It represents the ability for insight, visualization, intuition, wisdom, imagination and the ability to think and make decisions. We may experience the following physical and emotional issues when this chakra is out of balance.

Physical Imbalance 

We can experience headaches, blurred vision and eyestrain, sinus issues and hearing loss when this chakra isn't balanced or is blocked. Sometimes, an imbalance of the third eye chakra will affect our hormone function as well.

Emotional Imbalance

When the third eye chakra is imbalanced, emotionally, we will be moody and have issues with self reflection. We will have and inability to look at our fears and may day dream often. We may find it hard to learn from others as well.

When in Balance

When this chakra is balanced, we feel clear and focused. We can determine the difference between truth and illusion, and we are open to receiving wisdom and insight. The lesson to be learned from the third eye chakra is to see the big picture.

Crown Chakra “Sahasrara”

The crown chakra is violet in color and is located at the top of your head. It represents your ability to be fully connected spiritually. We may experience the following physical and emotional issues when this chakra is out of balance.

Physical Imbalance 

Often times, when our crown chakra is imbalanced, we feel depressed, have an inability to learn, have a sensitivity to light, sound and our environment.

Emotional Imbalance

We can feel confused and have issues with self-knowledge or our greater power. We will have fear of alienation and can carry prejudices.

When in Balance

When the crown chakra is balanced, you can live in the present moment and you have an unshakable trust in inner guidance. The lesson to be learned here is live mindfully.

What to do Next

You may feel as though one or more chakras are blocked or not balanced. Most of the times they are. When there isn’t sufficient energy flow through one chakra, or there is too much energy flow through one chakra, it can throw your whole system off because the chakras are trying to compensate for each other.

When balancing chakras, it is always best to start at the root chakra and work your way up to the crown chakra. There are many ways to balance and heal your chakras, you just have to pick the best method that works for you.
