Lemons, when applied to the skin, nourishes and revitalizes the skin. Vitamin C can protect against free radical damage and improve hydration. Drinking lemon water flushes theses toxins which helps with skin health. The juice of a lemon promotes collagen- when applied topically or eaten. Lemon juice can also reduce dry skin from aging and damage from the sun.

Possible Side Effects of Lemon Water

Lemon water is relatively safe to drink, but some people may experience a few potential side effects from it. Lemons contain citric acid, and while it is great for your system, citric acids may, over time, erode tooth enamel. To limit this, drink lemon water through a straw and rinse your mouth out with plain water afterwards.

The citric acid may also cause heartburn in some people. Others may experience heartburn relief from lemon juice as it becomes alkaline in your system- which reduces acidity in your digestive track.

Due to the diuretic properties from Vitamin C found in lemon juice, you may find yourself going to the bathroom more frequently than usual. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, although it can be quite annoying. It just means you’re getting rid of the toxin build up that is in your system. If it becomes too bothersome, just reduce he amount of lemon juice you are taking.

Are you on your way to get lemons yet? I know I will be. With all the amazing benefits they have to offer, it would be a shame not to take advantage of these little gems. All the nutrients they are packed with and all the benefits they can provide us, it wouldn’t hurt to start a new regimen of drinking lemon water on a daily basis.
