What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are organic compounds extracted from the bark, flower, fruit, leaf, seed or root of a plant or tree and have several healing properties. The oils in the plants are made up of very small molecules that can penetrate your cells, and some can even penetrate the blood-brain barrier. These oils are highly concentrated and have a strong aroma and can be used in aromatherapy and their benefits range from mental to physical healing.
What Is Eucalyptus Essential Oil?
Eucalyptus essential oil is used worldwide mainly for its antimicrobial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties. It can be used to help with out mental by boosting mental clarity, but it mostly used for our physical health. It is used to help us breathe better by opening up our airways and helps boost our immune system.
Eucalyptus essential oils can be used in aromatherapy or applied to the skin in a diluted solution using a carrier oil such as coconut oil or jojoba oil. Use it in room sprays, as a vapor rub when you’re feeling congested and shitty due to a cold or seasonal allergies. Here are a few other ways we can use eucalyptus essential oil in our everyday lives, which makes it almost a must have for our essential oil collection.
Ways to Use Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Boost Immune System
Eucalyptus has many benefits to our health, and boosting our immune system is one of them. Combine eucalyptus, lemon, cinnamon, clove and rosemary essential oils. You can also simply diffuse 5 drops of eucalyptus oil in your diffuser.
Improve Seasonal Allergies
Seasonal allergies can really bring you down to a bad mood. From congestion, to that damn runny nose that never stops running. To help relieve seasonal allergies, simply diffuse 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oils in your diffuser. You can also apply 2-3 drops topically to your temples and chest.
When your sinuses are congested, you can get a multitude of discomfort ranging from tensed muscles, intense headaches from your tense muscles and overall discomfort from not being able to breathe properly. Luckily, you can use eucalyptus essential oils to help relieve this sinus congestion.
Pour a cup of boiling water into a bowl and add 1-2 drops of eucalyptus essential oil into it. Next, place a towel over your head and deeply inhale the aromas for 5- 10 minutes.
Every now and then, we feel down and out and we need a boost of energy. By diffusing 5 drops of eucalyptus oil in our diffuser or rubbing 2-3 drops into our temples and the back of the neck will help give us that energy boost.
If you are suffering from an earache, apply 2-3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to your chest and back of the neck. You can also rub 1 drop into the outer part of your ear canal. If you are using his remedy on a child, remember to dilute the essential oil before application.
You can make a homemade vapor rub using a combination of eucalyptus essential oil and peppermint oil. Or, you can apply 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil to your chest and the back of your neck.
Fight Bad Breath and Cavities
No one wants to have bad breath, but let’s face it. Sometimes it’s inevitable. But we can help combat bad breath and cavities by adding 1-2 drops to water and gargling with it. Be sure to spit it out. Eucalyptus oil is NOT to be consumed.
Relieve Skin Irritations
Apply 2-3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to a sterile cotton ball and rub it to the effected area 2-3 times a day until the skin irritation has cleared. This also works great for clearing up bug bites.
Relieve Muscle Pain or Soreness
When your muscles are being aggy, especial if we have gotten the flu or have worked out too hard, you can use eucalyptus oil to help relieve the pain or soreness. Apply 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil topically to the are of concern. If you want to cover a larger are of the body, dilute the essential oil with a half of a teaspoon with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or jojoba oil.
Disinfect Our Homes
To help prevent the accumulation of germs add 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to a spray bottle filled with water and use it to clean the surfaces of your home. To reduce airborne germs, you can diffuse 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oils in your diffuser.
Stop Mold Growth
To help prevent the growth of mold, add 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to your vacuum cleaner or surface cleaner.
If you have mice or rats and want to repel them naturally, add 20 drops of eucalyptus oil to a spray bottle filled with water and spray in areas that are prone to those pesky rodents. These areas would include small openings around your home and by door ways. Be cautious if you have cats. Eucalyptus oil can be quite irritating to them.
Eucalyptus Oil Precautions
It is important to note that eucalyptus essential oil is NOT safe to consume and should only be used aromatically or topically. When using it for oral health, be sure to spit it out after gargling with it.
If you have sensitive skin, be sure to dilute eucalyptus oil with a carrier oi before using it on your skin. Be sure to perform a patch test before full application on your body. Also, you may want to dilute eucalyptus oil when using it on children. Avoid using it on their faces because it may be irritating. If you are unsure of the outcome, you may want to simply diffuse eucalyptus oil in your home to reap the benefits from it.
